Perfectionism β€” the killer of productivity

Perfectionism is the worst enemy of productivity. Surely everyone has at some point fallen into the trap of endless tweaking, constant dissatisfaction and starting over.

Perfectionism is the constant pursuit of an unachievable standard. It acts as a compulsion to continuously fine-tune every detail of a project. It sabotages our efforts and takes away our sense of fulfilment.

Perfectionism is nothing positive. It is the worst thing that happens to me in programming.

Done is better than perfect

In order to break out of the grip of perfectionism, you have to start setting realistic goals and strive effectively to achieve them. Don’t deviate from the main path, don’t add new sub-tasks or sub-sub-tasks for yourself. It’s also important that these goals are not too broad, because again, you can get stuck.

I’m the last person to give advice on this topic, as I myself battle with unwanted perfectionism on a regular basis. In any case, the first step in solving a problem is recognizing there is one. If you also like to take on new things and never finish them, then consider yourself made aware.
